Prayer Guide

During the forty days of Lent 2022, we are inviting you to pray for the people of Leavenworth County as an act of worship and devotion to God.

This guide is designed to help you focus your prayers on specific groups. Please use it as a tool to help but not restrict your prayers.

Families of Leavenworth County.

  • Seek God’s grace for their physical and mental health, safety and security, financial blessing.

  • Prayers of thanks for the parents, grandparents and children of our families.

  • Pray for marriage to remain strong and be healed of bitterness, resentment and anger. May the love that you have for us be shown in our homes and neighborhoods.

Government officials of our cities and county.

  • May God grant them wisdom and integrity to work for the benefit of all people within our land.

  • We pray they act with benevolence for everyone, not special interests or factions within our community.

  • May honor, truth and decency lead them forward to serve not out selfish ambition but a servant leadership opportunity.

  • Our prayer is that our leaders conduct themselves with a strong sense of dignity and civility.

Health care workers who devote themselves to healing and serving our community.

  • Grant them courage and persevering strength during these difficult days of pandemic.

  • May God’s mercy bless them with good physical and mental health.

  • Provide them grace and mercy to continue the healing profession.

  • Allow the prayers of gratitude and praise cover them as they work to help people come to wellness.

Schools

  • Bless our teachers, staff and administrators who work to educate our kids.

  • Grant wisdom to the leaders of the School Boards.

  • Give them hearts of courage and strength; passion and protection during these days.

  • May the Spirit of God refresh their souls and fill them with the enthusiasm that comes from God’s work in them.

  • May our schools be places of safety and security for all children.

  • Grant our leaders the moral confidence to act for the benefit of the least of these children and their families.

Sick, Disabled or Dying

  • Lord, we ask that you would comfort those who are sick with mental or physical infirmities.

  • When they feel broken or weary, let them know you are a God who is near and cares for them.

  • We pray for those who are nearing death that they may have an extra sense of your peace and presence as they near the end of life.

  • As they face the uncertainty of each day, may they know the healing power of your Spirit and the love you have for all of creation include each of us.

Law Enforcement

  • Watch over the law enforcement community who work to provide justice in our community.

  • May they be honest, descent and good toward all of the citizens.

  • Keep them safe from physical harm especially in the uncertain circumstance they find themselves.

  • Protect their hearts and homes as their family cares about them.

  • Cover them with your strong hand and mighty arm.

  • May they uphold the law without prejudice or bias toward another.

Emergency Workers

  • We thank God for our emergency workers who often are on the front line of caring, support and healing.

  • Grant them patience and endurance to serve our people.

  • Allow them the knowledge of the healing power of the Spirit.

  • We ask that you keep them out of harm’s destructive power.

  • May their souls find healing and comfort for each day as they take on the challenges of their work.

Homeless and chronically poor

  • Jesus said, “Whenever you did something for the least of these members of my families, you did it for me” Matthew 25: 40. So, we lift up prayers for the hungry, naked, stranger, sick and the prisoner.

  • Lord God, we ask your providence for these people who struggle with life.

  • Watch over the poor in spirit and the poor of material wealth.

  • We pray for your shelter to cover them. Thank you to the agencies that serve the neediest of our citizens.

  • Supply them with extraordinary qualities of mercy, wisdom and provision.

  • May the world see our witness of grace and mercy in the way we care for the neediest among us.

Ft. Leavenworth

  • We lift up our soldiers and their families to you this day, O Lord.

  • For the warriors who fight the battles when their nation calls to them.

  • May you grant them courage for the trials, vigilance in their training, peace in their homes, and blessing in their days.

  • Keep them focused on the path of righteousness in your eyes.

  • Thank you for the men and women who serve in order to keep our people free.

Our Cities

  • We pray that our community will turn toward your goodness, righteousness and holiness. We praise you for being a God who listens and cares.

  • Turn us away from the destructive prejudice of hatred toward our neighbors.

  • May our anger, frustration and disappointment be transformed into our holy love.

  • Teach us to abide in you as you abide in us so that our lives become fruitful with the character of Godliness in attitudes, behavior and character.

  • Apart from you we can do nothing, with you, all things are possible.

  • We pray for the blessing of peace and prosperity of rise up in Leavenworth County for these days and always.
